Explore the World
This was a little bit different - and lots of fun. In 2015 I was providing 1 hour release to the classroom teacher of the grade ones each week. Rather than trying to continue the teacher's daily program (which would have involved constant planning together and more work for her) we arranged for me to take a weekly 'one-off' - and 'Explore the World' was born.
Every week the class would:
the flag of the country. natural features – geographic, native plants and animals. simple (grade one) understandings about the politics, history, sport, money, religions, language, icons and cultural features of the country.
Countries chosen were based on parent responses offering to share their cultural knowledge and the interests of the children (eg. Madagascar chosen because of the movie!). |
Explore Ireland (powerpoint) - this one was made by one of the Dads who came in to present to the kids. Thanks, Gavin. It's at the end 'cause I had to check it was okay to load it first!
