Celebrating
Nothing builds classroom community like celebrating together...
Celebrating Good News from Our Classroom
We're currently (2019) using the SeeSaw program where kids and teachers can post work, photos, video in a secure platform where parents can only see the work their own child posts - and the posts the teacher makes. Each week I've been doing a 'Celebrating' post where I recount the events, learning activities and achievements of the week in point form. Feedback from parents has been great - appreciative of being 'in the know' about what's going on in the classroom - especially when parents are unable to involve themselves much in the school due to work etc. It also gives parents a chance to ask the kids about different aspects of their school week. I try to use as many individual names as possible and combine the serious with the not so serious. In the examples I've included, I've changed the names of kids.
Word searches are a fun way for kids to celebrate events in the classroom. A simple word search with all their names is a great first day activity. Using a word search with key words from learning and events of the week is a great way to review, reflect and relax at the end of the week.
