This is 'Planning Central' for 2013 - This room had one of those metal cabinet in it which are great for magnetic letters but as ugly as, so I 'disappeared' it! Our dear vice principal repainted this old shelf for me with a fresh white and the coloured boxes look good against it. The bottom 2 shelves are dedicated to Reading Recovery leveled books and the blue bin is for my stuff. The meditation stool is great 'cause it makes it easier for me to get down to floor level with the kids without sitting on my legs and getting pins and needles!

Some essentials
I love setting up for the new year - yeah, I know, major mental issues. The new year, new grade holds so many possibilities and who doesn't like a chance to start over all afresh. Of course we've kept half the kids we had last year and they're our new Grade Sixes and we've got 27 new Grade Fives to induct into 'the ways of Barwon and Kardinia'!!!!!
I've got a real routine now with how I prepare and I start with 3 important things: a diary, a planning notebook and a planning folder.

Diary and Planning FolderMy diary is for home and school and it's very personal. I make it in word using tables and lots and lots of little pictures of all the things I love. The local bookbinder puts it together beautifully
The planning folder is just a big ol' ring binder with lots of plastic pockets for all the sheets etc you inevitably collect when preparing for a new year. Once the year's underway I get rid of it and start collecting sheets in my Curriculum Coordination folder as well. Again lots of plastic pockets for all that paperwork. |

Colour
You'll notice I use a LOT of colour in all my 'stuff'. There's method to my madness. I'm a really visual person and I can pick up a folder/binder/file much quicker by colour. It's also really easy to say to a student 'Grab the orange homework folder' or 'Find the green gathering folder'.
And it's pretty!
