I teach at a Catholic Primary School. Catholic Education in Australia is quite prolific. I grew up in a country town that had almost as many Catholic schools as State schools. Roundabout 1 in 5 Australian kids attend Catholic schools. At a time when the Church is being held to account for its own disgusting behaviour in allowing abuse to continue so long, so widely and so unrestricted and in fact covered up, it's important for me as a person, teacher and member of the community to remember that Catholic education is a wonderful thing. My own experiences of education, life and role as a teacher have been positive, affirming and values based. I grew up, was educated, educate others and work in an environment of kindness, compassion, service, generosity and forgiveness and for that I am truly thankful. And that's what I wish to pass on.
